Clarence Paupanekis

NHCN CEO Clarence Paupanekis

As a former Councillor, holding the Housing Portfolio from 2010 to 2014, Clarence recognized the great need throughout the community for additional residences. At that time, the efforts of Norway House Cree Nation (NHCN) were dedicated to debt resolution with a limited capacity within the community to build more homes. A decade later, Clarence is gratified to see the success of Bison Modular Homes and the ever-increasing number of houses available in the community. Recognizing it is an incremental process, Clarence remains positive about the future and the eventual elimination of lack of housing in Norway House. Bison and the community are working to maximize housing priorities through CMHC programs such as the Rapid Housing Initiative (RHI).

His community commitment began with his role as a CFS worker, eventually rising to Executive Director of KSMA and eventually Chair of its Board of Directors. In 2018, Clarence assumed another of his current roles as Chief Executive Officer of NHCN. Throughout his career, Clarence helped establish the responsibilities of the Northern CFS Authority and is working to develop full CFS jurisdiction under Bill C-24. Working with families directly to keep them whole and committed to one another combines with the dedication of Bison Modular Homes to ensure proper housing will be available in a safe and prosperous community.
